@bobdaniel09 saidHave you tried Live chess here? The link is in the top right area of the page.
There should be a bar showing average move time and sleep times from time zones
Any other ideas?
The last time I tried it, the time controls were pretty short and fast.
EDIT: The "classical" option gives you up to 30 minutes per player on the clock.

@bobdaniel09 saidThe timing is set at the start of the game. If people use their time, they ahve all right to do so.

When I was new here there was an option to indicate activity, but it won't help you probably.

It's the nature of turn-based chess, which wasn't really intended for playing the way you prefer. You have options:
>only play games with very short time controls
>set up open invites with very short time controls
>only play games with people who are located in your timezone
>play on the "live" board. It's not used as much as it should be, but an opponent there is unlikely to leave the game during play.
Most of us here don't see ourselves as time wasters. We have lives which allow for short periods of relaxation at the chess board.

@bobdaniel09 saidI am guessing that when you log in to play a bit of chess you are frustrated because non or few of your opponents have moved.

As a non sub, you will be restricted to the number of concurrent games you are allowed.
If you subscribe and set up more games, there should always be an opponent to respond to
@bobdaniel09 saidThis is a correspondence chess site, not a live chess site. Yes, concessions have been made for those wanting live chess, but experience has shown that is not why people play here. But some don't understand that a response is not, and is not designed to be, instant.

Games take days. If this isn't for you, try another site featuring live games.

@bobdaniel09 saidpeople who slow down when having a lost position will do so absolutely regardless what you do. (Read the chess novel "The Royal Game" by stefan Zweig or Schachnovelle if you read German)
What I mean is people who don't move for days when they are losing and people who waste your time by playing a few moves and then losing by timeout I am here for playing chess and not claiming timeout
@bobdaniel09 saidSo how do you measure time per move?
I think that if you want faster games you should have things showing how long they will take per move
If I open a game and play within the minute it can seem to you differently:
* fast mover (because you are online and see the fast response
* slow mover, because I ahve been offline for 23 hours before opening the game.

@ponderable saidI once played someone, can't remember who it was, who seemed to delight in waiting until the last day,or even less, before his timeout expired to move.

Maybe he thought it bothered me.
It didn't,I just treated the games like any other.
Takes all sorts
@bobdaniel09 saidThe game parameters tell you how long each move can take.
