If someone has put alot of effort into a story etc (shavi springs to mind here), wouldn't a positive comment be of more value to them ?

Ignore if i'm rambling !!! π
Anyone can press the rec button. Anyone can write a short comment.
Not everyone can come up with a creative comment though. It might go like this:
I totally agree.
I like that post.
...
Wouldn't you get tired of these posts after a while?
To me, this seems much worse than a number of recs.

the can i write a reply so you push the button?
not so easy.
I like recs. I think they are a valuable part of the forum community. I do agree however that something needs to be done to make them more valuable, but I wouldn't be for a 2 rec per day limit, as I think that is too few, and too constrained.
I'd like to see a weekly limit, with all non-used recs carrying forward to your next week. That way, recs would be worth something again, and people who don't give out recs willy-nilly aren't being prevented from going rec mad, when there is a day/week where they want to give a lot of recs, due to high quality of posts.

I think that's a brilliant idea, I agree with it wholeheartedly, and recommend it be put in place as soon as possible.

Of course your idea makes a lot of sense.
The idea of 2 recs a day and not 30(e.g.) a week is to prevent Willy-Nilly from doing this:
Wait two weeks and give Katty 60 recs. This can still be a problem if the recs can be carried forward.
This is what you call abuse the rec button and 2 a day would prevent it.
You would just have to rec the posts with VERY high quality.
What about 3 recs a day?π

WHAT HAPP... sorry
what happens if you only log onto the site once every 2 weeks and read all the forums and there's seventeen brilliant things you want to rec?

The person who enjoys getting recs isn't violating the TOS.
Limiting recs, rather than eliminating them, allows these people to continue their enjoyment.
Clear?
