It's been one month today since the update was deployed, so hopefully everyone have become more familiar with some of the changes now. I'm still working through a few issues, but all mostly minor problems now.
From my perspective, not that much of the interface was changed too dramatically, which clearly is a view others do not share, so I'm relieved I showed some restraint and largely replicated the previous layout rather than a big-bang of a complete redesign.

Indeed!!! I am starting to get use to the changes but do not find this format as user friendly as the old one to be perfectly honest about it.
I do like some of the new changes, it isn't all doom and gloom. 🙂

@Russ saidI’m sorry to be so blunt but it’s just awful. You’ve killed this site. I won’t be subscribing again and I’m mad at myself for subscribing so far out into the future (and I LOVED this site and have been here for almost 20 years). I predict that there will be a mass drop in subscriptions over the next couple of years until the site is just a shell of the community that existed before.

I honestly can’t believe what’s happened. The old site graphics are not only far more pleasing to the eye, they had a charm that you couldn’t find elsewhere. The new graphics don’t really compete with other sites in terms of flashyness. We’ve just replaced charming simple graphics with grotesque simple graphics. The new menu systems are also really annoying to work with, as others have noted. These may seem like small things, but they are not. I used to really enjoy poking around the site but now it just makes me sad about the massive reduction in quality and nonsensical destruction of a great site.
@illuminator saidPlease can you be more specific with your criticism - what exactly is it you don't like?

It is difficult to process the outrage like this without any succinct points.
For example :
"The new menu systems are also really annoying to work with, as others have noted. "
Why is it annoying to work with exactly? It is virtually a like for like change, so I would be very interested in your feedback.
@illuminator
you've said what i feel
and to be specific, it's the colors used to fancy the joint
in my mind the garish colors are distracting and totally unnecessary
on the "my games" page the icon indicating what type of game it is is the exact same color as the "my move" link (green)
UNLESS the game is complete then it changes to red (WTF??? IT'S A GAME TYPE ICON)
a LARGE part of the problem is my old eyeballs
i just do not see as well as i did 15 years ago
color is a big part of how i identity information and anymore i cannot trust the colors given as they do not mean much, or anything
i know, i understand, it's hard to tell what i'm referring to as none of us are looking at the same page because of the different devices we use
i cannot use a phone or a tablet, the screen is just too small for me to decipher what's what
i'm not going anywhere else, i cannot see those pages either
this place used to be home
now it's a neon carnival
i hope, i really do, that you make a lot of money from yer website
it won't be mine
sorry i sound so dang negative, but when you've feasted upon steak,
rice and beans are a disappointment
@rookie54 saidThe game type icon background color mirrors the game status link color.

If you are using a table view which stretches horizontally (mainly on mobile), you are able to see the game state without horizontal scrolling. Because the game type icon is the first column.
It has been this way for many years and not related to the site update.
@Russ saidIt's human nature to be resistance to change in all walks of life.
Ok, thank you for your opinion. 🤔
I suspect that when someone proposed something called a wheel stone age men were saying "There's nothing wrong with these logs we've always used."
For what it's worth, apart from the chess puzzles not working on my chromebook, I think the site update is an improvement in many respects
As much as I hate to say it, I liked the old, simpler site better too. An option to view site in original version would be nice.

The aim of site updates is not to deliberately upset people, of course, but it is inevitable that someone will be always be unhappy.
