Edit: Title = "Opening Moves for 'Public Games' Link"

Would it be possible to list out the first few moves of the games shown under the "public games" link? For example, if I were scrolling through the games, it would be nice to see the opening sequence, especially if I were trying to find a game with a particular opening, without having to click on the game and figure out how it started. Granted, the "search by miniboards" feature would be useful, but only so long as the game hadn't progressed beyond the opening.

For example, let's say I was interested in finding ongoing games that had begun with the Scandinavian Defense (1. e4 d5). It would be a lot easier to find such a game with the first two or three moves listed rather than having to click on each individual game and hope that I came across the game I was looking for.

Just a thought.

Is good but it does need updating.

I agree. I use it frequently. But even if it were updated, I could see this being a valuable resource, too. I always enjoy seeing opening positions played out in whole games. Also, these games would be in progress, not yet archived.

Okay then, I've got to ask.

How come on the unupdated database you have faced 1.e4 106 times
and yet only played 1...d5 once.

Why this sudden interest in the Scandinavian Defence?

Are you trying to wangle an invite to the Swedish meet up Thread 126988 ?

Because it's unupdated. 😛

Seriously, though, more than anything it was just an example. But yes, I have had a newfound interest in it because it gets me to manageable middlegames without a terrible amount of theory.

Hmmm....

I don't believe you.

I think you have bought that book by Spinowsky & Spenunksy.

"Play the Scandinavian and Win lots of Friends."

So now you are hawking around RHP looking for players to play 1...d5 against.

Well Mr WittyWonka (if that is indeed your real name) we are wise to you.
And let me tell you this. I know a line that tranposes the Scandianvian into
a dull Caro Khan.

See how many new friends that gets you.

Don't so it Russ. This WittyWonka chappie is up to something.

Update the database so we can see how many Scandinavians he has really played.

Lol, I stand corrected. You win -- I can't find any other correspondence games
here on RHP that I've played (although I've had some recent success on RHP blitz
with it recently). I seriously did go through a period when I really looked into it
after I got fed up with the Sicilian theory. Now, coming back to chess after
my "interlude," I'm going to give it another chance so I can give more of my
attention to the middle game.

That still doesn't invalidate my original suggestion for the "public games" feature... 😉

PS -- I'd be interested to see the transposition you were talking about, if you don't mind sharing it.

I know about this -- I was the one who requested it. Now I will have a whole tournament full of games to watch.

BUT this site idea isn't supposed to be about the Scandinavian defense. It's supposed to be about allowing anyone to quickly scan through ongoing games to find openings that they're looking for.
