Please eliminate auto-editor substitutions

I tried to paste the following URL into a thread on China discussing Tibet. Note how the editor has made it unreadable by automatically substituting a smiley face for an accidental combination of a colon and a "D". Extremely annoying, and this sort of thing happens all the time.

Why not add an "insert emoticon" editorial sidebar instead of having automatic substitutions?

Why not add an "insert emoticon" editorial sidebar instead of having a ...[text shortened]... tomatic substitutions?

It is really annoying, and this has been requested hundreds of times in the past.

A work around would be to use a tinyurl.
