I don't know if anyone's thought of this, but it might make things more interesting if there was a minimum and maximum rating for joining a siege queue.
It would also provide a possible meaning for the colours.
This might avoid the equivalent problem that happens with pub pool tables that operate "winner stays on". The pool sharks play all day and nobody else gets a look in.

"... One thought on this though. I may be wrong but the Sieges may become more and more occupied by very, very good players. Lower rated players may loose interest in Sieges over time. So why don't you limit each colour with a rating band similar to tournaments?
I know there is some tricky challenge involved:
- What to do with players which grow their rating while they are queuing?, etc ... "

As this is the main subject for the thread, I will hopefully stand a better chance of getting a response.
In terms of variations in rating while queueing, I believe these are natural and expected. Your rating will not affect your ability to take part in the siege once the board becomes ready, merely your ability to join the queue in the first place. This is exactly like tournaments with multiple rounds.
