Ok, here's on the same whiny subject again how higher rated players will enter banded tourneys after a rating drop due to timeouts or a resignation rampage. I'd have two proposals:
1. Before starting the tourneys, purge them again. In the Winter Duel thing for 1000-1199 there are already players over 1200 and it's not even started yet.
2. (and more important) After each round, purge the tourney again. Not with the original rating limits obviously, as of course people can improve it. But you could implement some rule like "If your rating exceeds the rating maximum by more than 250 points, you cannot advance to the next round". The average player will not improve 250 rating points in the time it takes to finish a tournament, the people who do that are usually 1800-players after a rhp-break.
Of course some innocent people who really have improved might suffer... but they can still draw their satisfaction from their improvement 😀 and it would make the system fairer for a lot more people.
What do you think?
In theory I agree with purging the banded tournys before they start, for example the Summer Duel (Southern Hemisphere) 1200-1399 contains at least one user that's not had a rating between those bands for the last 30 days.
However, if they are purged then that decreases the overall number of folk in the torunament, which is a bit naff.
I don't agree with purging once the tournament is underway. People should only leave by being knocked out.
I've said it before, once. There should be 2-3 volunteers as tournament mods. These people respond quickly to complaints of better players joining tournaments below their level. You can propose all the automated ideas you want, but they will all miss and require recoding tournaments.
These tournament mods have the ability to remove players and maybe start/proceed tournaments, which could help in getting second rounds started when the winners are determined, but the entire first round isn't complete. I'd be a tournament mod. 🙂
Totally agree with principle....especially with tournament mods
It should be simple enough to establish whether a player knows he is eligible down to what is actually ethincally correct....and just plain good sportsmanship.....
this should definatley be put to the vote, just as the game mods were...

If you want to be able to kick people out of tourneys as they start, then you should also be able to put them in the next band up - one arguement for entering the lower band tourney is that "its the only one I am able to enter", so you need to solve that problem too.
And if a provisional player can provide evidence of their expected rating to a tourney mod then they should be allowed to enter banded tourneys ;-)

I think this idea has been around for ages with loads of threads looking for solutions to an obvious problem, and people seem to be working seperately to try to come up with ideas, rather than working as a team.
IMO, this thread has come up with some of the best ideas for preventing the problem of people playing in banded tournies that don't really belong.
