For the change announced by Russ in this thread:

threadid=52571

Thread 52571

This will only really add value to the site if everyones Rec counters are reset to Zero - otherwise Rec totals per user remain meaningless as a measure of their meaningful contribution to the forums.

Or better even, get rid of the total wreck counter altogether.

"As a measure of their meaningful contribution to the forums", rec totals were meaningless before and they'll still be meaningless, because people did and will still rec the nasty, mean-spirited, insulting posts.

Only now, with recs at a premium, only the nastiest and meanest posts will get recced, giving even more incentive to be even nastier and meaner than before.

Maybe now, though, those with the most recs will be ostracized and held up as the meanest and nastiest posters.

Hmmm, no way, they'll still be seen as heroes. ๐Ÿ˜ž

I only hope I'm wrong.

I beg to differ 5 rec's already and not a nasty word in the whole thread.

Did anyone ever see anyone as a hero because of their wreck number?

Come on. If there was *one* place on this site where nastiness was not held in high esteem, where the rec system actually worked, it was the Site Ideas forum. People tended to rec ideas they agree with, not the nasty posts.

They weren't seen as heroes because of their rec number, they were seen as heroes because they were the nastiest posters. And as such, happened to get the most recs. Don't put the effect before the cause.

Edit: Hmmm, looking over my post, I see where I could give the impression I thought this. Bad composition on my part.

If that's the case, why are you so much against the wreck system?

Probably because it quantifies the effect. And it will still do so, only the total number of recs will be less over the same time period.

Yeah. Like this character! User 1 ๐Ÿ˜

I didn't think this idea would be taken up so quickly!

As it was such a good idea, I hope someone will please take my new rec virginity for it.
