Resign - not my move

Why can't I resign when it is not my move?

I've been asking myself this question for quite some time, and now feel the need to pose it publicly.

Sometimes I revisit a game and see no hope before I even want to move again, and I wish to resign then. I can't!

That in itself takes away the possibility of a new game if I should choose to take one, unless I up my game load, which I shouldn't have to do.

Why is it not possible to have a resign option when it is not my move?
