When an obvious scam spam site posts (see General Forum - Cheap flights), it would be helpful if subscribers in good standing could simply "RED BUTTON" it. That would temporarily block the entry until a moderator could check it out. Anyone who maliciously or recklessly hits that RED BUTTON (abuses it), then they would no longer be in good standing. This is just to protect our members and this site, itself.

One additional suggestion that might be better: Don't allow a non-sub to start a forum thread until a minimum number of moves has been made, or even, possibly, a minimum of a few games.

Subscribers can alert the thread and when a Moderator comes online they can remove it - as i have done this morning. On the mod log 2 users alerted the post (you weren't one of them).

Couple of practical issues with your suggestion - which could be overcome

1. "subscribers in good standing" - define good standing. If some people are suggested then i can guarantee that someone would disagree with that.

2. Being unable to create a thread - we have in the past had genuine threads created by non-moving users in forums such as the help forum - your current suggestion would close this avenue for them.

Maybe a message on the forums saying be wary of clicking on links? Personally if i see a link i wouldnt click on it if it had nothing to do with chess at all.

Fair enough. Just thinking out loud. Trying to be helpful.

Are we at least using a captcha for new account signups?

They should be introduced for sure.
Plus I renew the suggestion to give posting rights only after two logins...
New members should be made aware that they can contact greeters.

Non subs should only be allowed to post in the help forums

We should see a lot less of this now.

Without discussing this in detail publicly, for obvious reasons, captcha should not be necessary now, and I will make tweaks going forward to catch any new trends in spammy posts.

I've had one feedback message from "gibsdocs" - "i am not a spammer please". Very convincing, as the message subject was trying to sell citizenship papers.

So far, so good. The problem seems to have been solved until the invasive techniques evolve again.
