I made a suggestion to Russ. He suggested that I post it here to get some general reactions, so here is what I said:
"Personally, I don't like playing two games simultaneously against the same player. It just strikes me as weird. Of course, it opens up the possibility of an annoying player trying to mirror your moves right back to you. It also adds pressure, since you have to deal with twice as many games at the same time.
But think of double round robins that the pros play - sure, each player plays every other player twice, but not at the same time. The idea is that the players are all paired up for one game in round one, and then in round two, the players are paired up using reversed colors. This, strikes me as normal. If you can change this, or maybe add tournaments set up like this, I'd appreciate it. Perhaps ask the general population for an opinion?"
Would a double round robin set up, like traditional tournaments with round 1 then round 2 be appealing?
Personally,
I don't mind playing the same player 2 games which is why I enjoy the Clan Challenges and one of the good reasons I am on this site. We can have both, and if you don't want to play in it. Play in what suits you best. I don't understand why you wouldn't want to play the same player twice???

@MisterCat saidThe idea has merit, but there's easier options which may suit you.

First of all, when playing in a tournament, what time frame do you prefer,
Let's assume it's 3:7.
Why not concentrate on one of the games and only play in the other when threatened with timeout?
Chances are the first game will be over while the second is still in the opening stages.
Other options are ladders(one game only)or open invites

Hi. Of course I'm delighted to play the same player twice. The difference is that I don't play both games at the same time - and I used the method that pro tournaments are set up as my example.
OK - even if we ignore the silly idea of players mirroring moves back at you - let us consider a tournament with, say 10 players. So once the tournament starts, I am immediately faced with 18 games to consider. Well, as someone who works for a living, I find the pressure of all that analysis to be stressful. On the other hand, I wouldn't mind 9 games.
But that's just me - and I posted here to get some commentary. Of course, players will play as they like. Thanks for your post in reply! mc.

I am glad that my idea has merit. Perhaps it will come to pass. I've been here a while, and have played a bunch of tournaments already - learned to take it easy. I've usually looked for 7-14 sections, but I've done some in 3-7. But as I replied above, when faced with dozens of games to analyze at once, it becomes overwhelming. For me. I didn't say for all. But I posted here to get some reactions, and hopefully maybe Russ will try to schedule some tournaments that way and see what happens. I also play Chess at a site called Little Golem, and the same thing happens there in double round robins - though at least they also have single round robins. Thanks for your comments, Dave. mc.
@MisterCat saidMight i suggest a possible solution to your dilemma.

Why not join a club?
Club 383 is a very active club and Paul sets up lots of tournaments with varying time frames and only a few players in each group.
I don't think there's an option for one game, but at least you wouldn't get more than say half a dozen games to consider.
You may even be able to come to some arrangement with your opponents(usually 2 or 3)to finish one game before starting the second and agree not to time each other out.

I suggest you get yourself into tournaments more to your liking. There are enough different kinds now to get it that is for sure. Hell you can even get into ones with 3 queens which I am still trying to figure out how to play!!!! 😉
Dave had a pretty good suggestion for you.

Hi guys. I played my first game here in 2007, so I am not exactly new. I used to just play for free and do the occasional open invite, max 6 games. Once I realized that I got a lot of use from the site, I started paying for membership - and then tried out the tournaments that were offered to me. But I am just not an industrious individual - apparently there are lots of other options here - clubs, clans, ladders - and I have never been inclined to fool with those things. Open invites and tournaments made me happy for my level of usage. I realized last year that the double round robin set up seemed not ideal for me, so I wrote this suggestion. Just for your info, I have added my name to another double round robin tournament - just last week, and my first in over a year. So I'll play. I just hoped for something else. As always, your suggestions and attention are appreciated. mc.
