Why have a debate forum, for non-chess related issues??? aren't we here to play chess

its usefull to discuss chess ideas.. improve this site.. etc.. but to have debates.. i think there are better sites than this one, why not to delete that forum and get some usefull space on the server??

i mean, there are debates and discusson foruns over the web.. i dont see the point of having one here

Because debates can be fun sometimes, besides before there was a debate fourm there where alot of debates craming up the Gen fourm

so alot of us ask for a seprate fourm for debates

wouldnt take any more space on the server than people posting the debates in other foums, its better the way it is

The debates forum is to establish a concept of an
internet community. There are many people on
this site who value the debates forum, who consider
    it a major draw.

Here's the beautiful thing: If you like them, you can
go there, read and participate. If you don't like them
you can take a peak every once in a while to make
sure you don't or, if you really hate them, just don't
    go there.

If you delete the debates forum, you stand to lose
people who pay for their stars. However, no one is
going to join a site because there isn't a debate forum,
because it's as simple as apple pie to avoid it.

it is not really a debates forum .... it is a cage for StarValleyWy.
we rarely let him out, sometimes he escapes, but we always track him down and put him back.
we just call it a debates forum to keep him happy.

I think its a good place for people who apparently have at least one thing in common to discuss other non related topics to give more of a sense of community.

Main topic: what's the point of debates?

    My answer:
To discharge the libido of wanna be machos...

surely it is a suitably harmless way to do it.
we need to do something to express our feelings

by the way ... StarValleyWy escaped today ... he only mauled one poor defenceless victim before being contained Game 845063.
but do not fear; this is the first escape for almost six months.
he is now safely back in his cage.

Are you afraid to confess that you, self proclaimed men (in plural) hasn't periods? LOL

Your stupid wars in the forums only means to me somewhat in the
lines of: Im most intelligent, more capable, more intellectually prepare, more dialectically ...[text shortened]... mmand of english language is bad.... it isn't my mother tongue, as you can see... or not...

A rather strong opinion, but it makes me wonder...

Who are YOU trying to convince of YOUR own ideas?
Why don't YOU waste YOUR time in more useful matters?

Don't forget to add that your response was
    'pure misandry.' (Hatred of men.)

    Sorry...

Im not trying to convince anyone to my own ideas, which, btw, aren't my *own* ideas (as posted before by another ppl).

It was clearly put in the forums that the mere name calling doesn't appeal anyone. So, if you like to read swearing and more swearing and name calling, its up to you. Im tired. And POINT.

    and to ur 2nd question:

It is supposed RHP being a site to play CHESS.
As I love chess and all the commiment put by Russ and Chris in this site, I'm trying (by replying to you) to make from this site a *really* comunity. Not a bunch of mad/whinners/insatisfied people struggling one against the other, for the only pleasure of doing so.

Hope you can understand my position. It's just what the thread tittle says...

If you can't, may be I have to learn more english to make it clear.
But if you have catched the idea, please think of it before you answer.

    Regards

    -J

Perhaps you missed the humor...I will explain

my questions were your questions in your original post, I just turned them around on you.

The joke is, you are complaining about debates, and you have sparked a debate in the process.

Don't get the wrong idea, I do agree with your general premis, but the debates forum has a useful purpose...it keeps the nonsense out of the chess forum.

    regards,

    Brian

p.s. I usually do think before I respond (like you suggested), and I would encourage you to try harder to understand the message before responding as well.

i think some questions can bring about a unique clear and concise answer.
these questions do not suit debates.

other questions have many correct answers.
the debates forums suit these questions.
most people choose to prefer one answer over another.
when two people have differring opinions they often like to debate the validity of their chosen answer with others choosing a different answer.

when two people have different answers they can debate til they are blue in the face ... typically neither will budge, and their opinions simply become more entrenched.

a left winger and a right winger can argue their superiority forever, as can supporters of the methods of each sex.

some debaters become more ENRAGED as the debate progresses, some become bored, most people feel satisfaction that they have had their say.

unfortunately almost noone ever really listens and is open to changing their own viewpoint.
