white on bottom...

Site Ideas

Don't know about others, but, I like the white pieces displayed on the bottom. This puts the black pieces on top. This is the way all chess books show their diagrams, so I'm very used to it. Possibly have an option setting to show white pieces on bottom EVERY time a board is displayed...TY

I want to see the side I’m playing on the bottom, with an option to rotate the board display.

When I'm black and it's my turn, I always have to rotate the board to bring white back to the bottom. I thought I was the only one.
I learnt chess from books that always show white at the bottom!
So I support this idea.

I'm solidly in favour of the status quo here, but I think it would be a good addition to the player's board settings option, to recognise the wishes of players who want to see boards in any one of 4 possible views.

People play with their pieces at the top?

Seems backwards to me πŸ€”

This has come up a few times over the years - no reason why this can't be added. The preference can be persisted by "cookie" easily.

I'd like a 3d birdseye view.

3d real view.

Like sitting at the board.

I would actually love to do this - and the new board code (used on live chess currently only) was built with this in mind.

But I also know no one would use it really.

I could be convinced otherwise, just because I like programming 3D graphics πŸ™‚

I would use it.

I assumed something like that would be free for programmers because it's so common.

I know nothing about it...

The board is harder to see in 3D. Depending on perspective, pieces can 'hide' behind other pieces.
