I wasn't sure if this should go in the Tournament forum or here.

I personally like the Octet style tourney's. Not too many games, and the tourney is over quick.

The Octet tournaments have a separate tourney for every 50 point rating group. For example, they have a tourney for 1450 - 1499, one for 1500 - 1549, etc. But it stops at 1600. with one tournament for 1600+.

The only reason for this that I can think of is that, at one time, there may have not been as many players above 1600 and there was problems getting enough players. I wouldn't think that would be a problem any more.

The tournament is not very competitive when I'm playing folks 600 points higher. Could we break up that top octet a little more?

[Edit] Okay, so I do know how to spell Octect...dang it! I mean Octet, okay?[/Edit]

I agree, the top band 1600+ is too large; this band fills up long before any of the other bands.

NOTE: I think this post would be better placed in the Tournaments Forum, as you're not actually suggesting a change to the functionality of the site.

Edit: The issue might have been that 1600-1650 took too long to fill, but perhaps there should be a 1600-1700 and then 1700+ (There's no need to force all the bands to be the same size.)

Glad someone feels the same. I wanted to put this post here so that it got administrator attention.

I think the reasoning goes something like this

Russ: "This ih8sens guy is improving far too quickly, lets deflate his ego by forcing him to play against super strong players rather than letting him be the top seed every once in a while!@!!11j!!!! (Random exclamation, mine)."
