XML tags for smilies

Site Ideas

1 edit

Too often smilies appear in posts when you do not want to appear, for example:

20. Qh7+ Kf8 21. Bb4+ Nd6 (21. ..Ne7 22. Qh8🙄 22. Bxd6+

I suggest smilies go into XML tags like this:

< smilie >: )< /smilie >

In this case without the spaces, of course. 🙂

Another one is " ) [without the space] coming out as "😉.

It replaces only the ) for some reason and anyway " ) isn't the code of any of the smilies.

Russ must use an odd way of substituting smilie codes. 😕

As much as I like the idea, there's a reason you can't do this for instance: < i >italics< /i >. To be concise with the codes for italic and bold, I think brackets could solve the problem, like: [s]🙂[/s], or something.

Edit: Four edits to get the italic tags printed in the post, because the script strips out any tags. Probably for security reasons or you could insert script tags and the like.

Sometimes things happen, smileys pops up or worse.

Why not have a tag like [exactly] :-) (-: [/exactly]

Even [ b ] or other typo instructions can be as is.
