The teaching of the mind ground
Is the basis of Zen study.
The mind ground is
The great awareness
Of being as is.

- Fayan

I Am Content with Silence

Observe the vastness of the universe,
The profound idiom of its order.
See the stars shine through inviolate calm,
The wordless drama they nightly rehearse.
Note the sun tracing out heaven’s border,
Daily playing its magnificent psalm.
What measure of sound have I to presume,
These celestial melodies to impeach?
Why break the peace with verbal violence!
For the time I am content with silence,
Until I find a thought worthy of speech.

~ Daniel F Mitchell

When the student is ready
the teacher appears.
When the student is truly ready
the teacher disappears.

Lao Tzu

i am my own worst enemy
gently please, gently now
my ego attempts unscalable heights
------------------------

With the moon emerged,
My mind is motionless
Sitting on this frosty seat,
No further dream of fame.
The forest,
The mountain,
Follow their ancient ways,
And through the long
Spring day, not even
The shadow of a bird.

- Reizan (d.1411)

I settled for a crescent moon
my ass was frozen to the stone
I hoped I put the fire out
near my little bamboo home

These people with their "selflessness"
but ink and brush prepared
"Ooh, I am so beyond all this"
but that is what they shared

Citation, please. Better yet, the original Chinese. 😉

Only the Zen-person
Knows tranquility:
The world-consuming flame
Can't reach this valley.
Under a breezy limb,
The windows of
The flesh shut firm,
I dream, wake, dream.

When you’re both alive and dead,
Thoroughly dead to yourself,
How superb
The smallest pleasure!

- Bunan (1602–1676)

They say that God is everywhere, and yet we always think of Him as somewhat of a recluse.

~ Emily Dickinson (1830 - 1886)

a cat was rumbling in the street
then entered the Sublime
it didn't give a reason, though
perhaps it was just time

Do not seek peace; seek instead to bring it.

Mugo's life cry:
"Don't be hoodwinked!"
Zuigan's: "Yes, master!"
Napping by the sunny ivied window
I'm only roused by mountain pines

Many roads lead to the Path, but basically there are only two: reason and practice.
To enter by reason means to realize the essence through instruction and to believe that all living beings share the same true nature,
which isn't apparent because it's shrouded by sensation and delusion.
