The History Channel is going to have a show on tonight at 8 PM EST (those not fortunate enough to live in NY need to check your local listings if you even have TV's in your pathetic cultural backwaters) called "Bible Battles" which will examine the tactics and weapons of the battles described in the Bible. What are your favorite Bible battles (no lame jokes, please)?

Is this going to be about battles specifically mentioned in the bible, or just any battle that happened to take place in the ancient mideast?

The ads for the program discussed Moses, King David, Joshua and others as military leaders, so I presume it will be limited to those battles actually described in the Bible. I wonder if we'll get a description of the wonderful Midianite Massacre (my favorite).

I think the one between Onan and God would translate well on TV.

Void of weaponry (at the onset), I'd derive great pleasure in seeing the opening of the battle of Jericho. My hunch is that sound waves were used, which, in and of itself, is awe-inspiring.
My favourite bit of Biblical guerilla warfare would be Samson & the foxes. The civil war between David & Absalom should be interesting. The various sieges of Jerusalem should be pretty colourful.

The one with David and his son would make a great movie, actually.

I'm pretty sure they've already made one.
Ah yes, King David back in 1985. Richard Gere played the archaelogically absent King David, and there was one heck of a nude scene where Bathsheba bathed herself in full majesty on the rooftop.
Well, worth watching. And rewinding and watching again. and again.
and again.

I'm not too sure old "Mouse-Eyes" Gere has much to bring to the screen in a Biblical dramatisation of anything - except perhaps a retelling of Lot…
