Of course there's a place for parental firmness and authority;

otherwise, societies would implode.

Any parent willfully inhibiting a child's curiosity is an intolerable fool of the first degree.

Certainly hope you're not a victim.

Pfffft. If anything, it should be the opposite.

From my personal memories in Sunday school:

"If God says Thou Shalt Not Kill, why did he help the Israelites kill all those people?"

"If the Bible starts a few thousand years ago then where are all the dinosaurs?"

"If everyone was dead except Noah and his family, how can there are so many people in the world now and everyone looks so different?"

"How did an old man like Noah make a boat big enough for two of every animal in the world?"

"How come there are no people who are 939 years old today?"

"Why are there so many different types of churches?"

"Why would God want to kill so many people when he comes back?"

"How come all of the miracles and things that happened in the Bible don't happen today?"

The child you have quoted in the OP doesn't sound very smart.

I can tell you why.

Her 10 year old is at that age when the opinions of their peers is all-consuming. All it takes is half or more of his peers saying they don't believe in God, and suddenly, it's fashionable to not believe in God.

That's pretty advanced. Typically, it's around 16 that denying God becomes in vogue 🙂
