I don't see how the same person can be educated enough to succeed in their field and yet be ignorant enough to be unable to think for themselves. A primary focus of higher education is always to teach one 'how to think'. (Note this is different from 'what to think'.) One might think this makes ignorance more unlikely, not less. But the evidence seems to speak for itself.

I think flat-Earthism is mostly a form of narcissism and not really about things like knowledge, investigation or truth.
