Perhaps, but the point is, that Paul's teaching, rather than being the teachings of an
apostate, is firmly rooted on the word of God. Even in his own time certain ones
contended that his presence was weak but his letters weighty. He was battling of
course those who sought prominence for themselves and who sought to draw away the
disciples after themselves.

So says the 'history [that] is written by the victors'. Those that lost out in the debates that marked the rise of corporate Christianity are "apostate" according to the accounts subscribed to by those who 'won' the debates.

not really, the Arians lost out in the debates at the Council of Nicaea, yet their doctrines were essentially Biblically based.

This is just evidence that among the "Christianities" that Proper Knob mentioned there were those that "lost" despite being arguably "right". The Arians did not get to control the framing of the history of the early church.
