In Terry Pratchett's book Small Gods the small gods are those who will cease to exist when no one believes in them.

I seem to remember in "The Book of Ptath" (AE Van Vogt) gods got their
powers from those praying with "prayer sticks". No followers = no power.

Surely it is also suggested in the OT? Why else is God so adamant about
being worshipped and not permitting other gods to be worshipped?
