Is dogma a bad word? Why, if you think it is?

"Dogma is defined as principles or rules that cannot be questioned".

This makes dogma an inherently bad thing.

Dogma and ideology, in most cases, serve the purpose of delegitimizing doubt and dissent. This strikes me, at best, as being an odd thing to do in the realm of spiritual questions.

If we cannot be questioned on any topic, we have our heads up a body part that should be anatomically impossible to do. Every truth presented should be able to stand up to all the scrutiny thrown at it. This word gets thrown around here as if the one using it is insulting the one they are talking to in a discussion. If it is a discussion, why is the word dogma being used? If truth is under discussion, it should still be questioned, even if all we do is confirm its truthfulness. If we cannot have a truth that we believe in, then why question anything, nothing will ever come from it?

Who has said, "we cannot be questioned on any topic"?

I can't see how this applies to speculations and aspirations about supernatural things.

Maybe someone is wielding dogma to avoid genuine scrutiny and discussion.

You are free to believe in whatever "truth" you want.

Perhaps an unconventional use of the term here, but is a belief in a spherical earth 'dogma'?

How about a belief in the correctness of the Pythagorean Theorem?

Truth is like a double-edged sword; it cuts both ways; maybe someone is accusing others of dogma to avoid genuine scrutiny and discussion.

I can be questioned; the only time here I didn't want to go down different paths of discussion was to avoid rabbit holes that would lead away from the topic I had started. When other questions came up, I thought I would do that. I suggested starting another thread, and I have zero concern about addressing anything. I'd prefer it to be an honest discussion that stays on topic and not morph into something where motivation, intelligence, or other personal things become the topic under discussion.

Granted.
