Not God, big G.

Small g gods are created by men.
Not all of them. Men didn't make the earth or the storm but these godlike entities aren't the Big G who is transcendant and all that.

I.e. read the Jefferson Bible.
Actually the JB is much broader than what I'm suggesting. I mean only the words attributed to Jesus while He walked the Earth.

Er, excuse me, but, You said there were no other Gods. WTF?

"On that same night I will pass through Egypt and strike down every firstborn--both men and animals--and I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD."
The bible is littered with contradictions.

The Holy Bible has no contradictions. There is a lack of understanding among many of the readers. 😏

Isaiah 45 was written long after Exodus. From Wiki:

Two crises occurred between [Isaiah 39] and [Isaiah 40]. The first was the late 7th century Deuteronomistic reform of official Judean religion under king Josiah, who banned many elements of the old polytheistic cult from the Temple...[/qu ...[text shortened]... er was probably a polytheist.

Look at Isaiah 41:28 and you will see mention of multiple gods.
Monotheism is reflected in the oldest book in the Bible, the book of Job.

Leviticus 17:7 shows Moses taught that the offerings to gods of the heathen were offerings to demons. Psalm 106:37 says the same thing.

In other words demonic spirits deceiving and masquarading as gods. Paul repeats the concept in the New Testament in 1 Cor. 10:20.

King James Version "devils" should be better translated as demons (Isaiah 13:21; 2 Chron. 11:31).

Demons are disembodied beings from a pre-Adamic age. They work along with Satan and the rebellious angels to deceive mankind. Some of them imitate gods.

They can adopt to the modern age. Most likely demons can be mightly behind some modern UFO superstitions as well. Whatever man longs for the demons get busy to imitate, whether ancient gods of older civilizations or modern idols of longed for extraterrestial alien super intelligence.

They also can ramsack the memories of a person and imitate the deceased to make living people think that they are contacting dead loved ones.

Demons are disobedient spirit beings, like Satan the devil and ruler of the demons. There was no pre-Adamic age, but the rest of what you say could be true.

Logic, of course.

After reading the Bible again, cover to cover, it occurs to me that the one sure way to drive a person away from Christianity is to force them to do exactly this. I find it terribly frustrating to try to make sense of it all.
I'm not sure what you mean by "...do exactly this."

But I do know what you mean when you say it's frustrating trying to make sense of it all.

I have. Many times. But I'm not frustrated or confused.

Apparently you are.

I was simply telling you what HoH meant, since you asked. Not sure why you think I necessarily share his views.

Since I'm not sure you really understood what he meant, I'll put it in context for you:
"After reading the Bible again, cover to cover, it occurs to me that the one sure way to drive a person away from Christianity is to force them to [read the Bible from cover to cover]".

I believe it was meant semi-tongue-in-cheek.
