Among the most admirable people in the church I grew up in was a middle-aged couple who got up in front of the congregation about once a year to sing a duet. As I recall, they always chose a song about how 'He could have called ten thousand angels to come and set Him free...'
While I no longer buy into the intent of the lyric, I still remember them and their song with fondness. They wound up moving away to Alaska, of all places.

It's been very quiet in the spirit thread,,, wake up wake up and sing your favourite hymn!!!
Onward Christian Soldiers.. 😉
whats yours?
"In open fields of wild flowers,
she breathes the air and flies away
She thanks her Jesus for the daises and the roses
in no simple language
Someday she'll understand the meaning of it all
He's more than the laughter or the stars in the heavens
As close as a heartbeat or a song on her lips
Someday she'll trust Him and learn how to see Him
Someday He'll call her and she will come running
and fall in His arms and the tears will fall down and she'll pray,
"I want to fall in love with You" x4
Sitting silent wearing Sunday best
The sermon echoes through the walls
A great salvation through it calls to the people
who stare into nowhere, and can't feel the chains on their souls
He's more than the laughter or the stars in the heavens
As close a heartbeat or a song on our lips
Someday we'll trust Him and learn how to see Him
Someday He'll call us and we will come running
and fall in His arms and the tears will fall down and we'll pray,
"I want to fall in love with You" x4
It seems too easy to call you "Savior",
Not close enough to call you "God"
So as I sit and think of words I can mention
to show my devotion
"I want to fall in love with You" until it fades out"

Allow me to plug Johnny Cash's My Mother's Hymn Book. (He said it was his favourite out of all his recordings. )
Then, there's that great spiritual O Death:
Artist: Ralph Stanley Lyrics
Song: O Death Lyrics
O, Death
O, Death
Won't you spare me over til another year
Well what is this that I can't see
With ice cold hands takin' hold of me
Well I am death, none can excel
I'll open the door to heaven or hell
Whoa, death someone would pray
Could you wait to call me another day
The children prayed, the preacher preached
Time and mercy is out of your reach
I'll fix your feet til you cant walk
I'll lock your jaw til you cant talk
I'll close your eyes so you can't see
This very air, come and go with me
I'm death I come to take the soul
Leave the body and leave it cold
To draw up the flesh off of the frame
Dirt and worm both have a claim
O, Death
O, Death
Won't you spare me over til another year
My mother came to my bed
Placed a cold towel upon my head
My head is warm my feet are cold
Death is a-movin upon my soul
Oh, death how you're treatin' me
You've close my eyes so I can't see
Well you're hurtin' my body
You make me cold
You run my life right outta my soul
Oh death please consider my age
Please don't take me at this stage
My wealth is all at your command
If you will move your icy hand
Oh the young, the rich or poor
Hunger like me you know
No wealth, no ruin, no silver no gold
Nothing satisfies me but your soul
O, death
O, death
Wont you spare me over til another year
Wont you spare me over til another year
Wont you spare me over til another year

whats yours?
Jesus loves me
Jesus loves the little children
Amazing grace (best of the best)
How great thou art
He walks with me
Wow, I've started and I can't seem to stop!
Swing low sweet chariot
This little light of mine
I think I could go on for for awhile, it would be a long list and there all my favourites.
I can recall more than a few times, I've been encouraged while
singing along with this song.

Praise The Lord
=============
When you're up against a struggle
That shatters all your dreams
And your hope has been cruelly crushed
By Satan's manifesting scheme
And you feel the urge within you
To submit to earthly fears
Don't let the faith you're standing in, seem to disappear
(Chorus)
Praise the Lord
He can work with those who praise Him ,
Praise the Lord
For our God inhabits praise,
Praise the Lord
For the chains that seem to bind you
Serve only to remind you that they drop powerless behind you
When you praise him
Now satan is a liar
And he wants to make us think
That we are paupers
When he knows himself
We're children of the King
So lift up the might shield of faith
For the battle has been won
We know that Jesus Christ has risen
So the work's already done
(Repeat Chorus)

TITLE: Spirit in the Sky
Lyrics and Chords
When I die and they lay me to rest
Gonna go to the place that's best
When they lay me down to die
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky
/ A - / - D / - A / E A /
Goin' up to the spirit in the sky - spirit in the sky
That's where I'm gonna go when I die - when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
I'm gonna go to the place that's the best
Prepare yourself, you know it a must
Gotta have a friend in Jesus
So you know that when you die
He's gonna recommend you to the spirit in the sky - spirit in the sky
Oh, recommend you to the spirit in the sky
That's where you're gonna go when you die - when you die
When you die and they lay you to rest
You're gonna go to the place that's the best
Never been a sinner, I've never sinned
I've got a friend in Jesus
So you know that when I die
He's gonna set me up with the spirit in the sky
Oh, set me up with the spirit in the sky - spirit in the sky
That's where I'm gonna go when I die - when I die
When I die and they lay me to rest
I'm gonna go to the place that's the best
Go to the place that's the best
