Here are your questions:
How does Lady Gaga contribute to that I wonder? Does her kind of approach set it back or move it forward?
I am asking, how do we come up with answers?
Hmmm? Hard to tell.
Listen, the woman is just trying to make a buck and her approach is to do things that grab people attention. So if that means getting up in front of the audiance in her underware or panting her hair pink and setting it on fire then that is what you do. Personally, I think the approach is a bit to "Black Beardish" but hey, you have to make a living I suppose. To be honest, I think people are gradually becoming numb to these attention getters. THe Maddona like tactics get old after a while. Maybe she can burn a few crosses in her next video or set a Pope on fire or something.

People in 'the west' so often see problems "over there" [in parts of the world they are unfamiliar with] through the prism of how it inconveniences them or, in this case, how it has messed up a celebrity's plans. I read your post and checked out a link you gave. So the issue for you is what Lady Gaga twitters on certain issues, not what the situation is with regard to those issues in the place where she wants to play a concert?

Originally posted by whodeyI am not interested in Lady Gaga's act or her music. But I think preventing her from playing is backward in my estimation. I don't care if you accept her not. Why should whether you accept her have any bearing on the staging of her concert? Making it harder for people like you to restrict what other people do in order to express themselves represents "moving forward", yes.
I suppose the more permissive a society is the more readily they accept someone like lady Gaga. The real question becomes, is accepting someone like lady Gaga moving forward? You would say yes and they would say no.

Originally posted by JS357You said "the issues she addresses are significant" but that was as far you seemed to go. Still nothing about those "significant issues" - gay rights [for example] - in Indonesia. Just something about a western celebrity having her concert thwarted by some Indonesians. Perhaps I could find a U.S. or U.K. tabloid newspaper to keep me up to date with the Lady Gaga "issue". 😀

Originally posted by FMFI personally don't pay much attention to her. I am not even fond of here music. The following one is the only one that I somewhat liked.
