The fifth series of this subtitled Italian masterpiece appears to be an enormous and almost wayward allegory about Catholicism, and Christianity more generally. Death. Resurrection. Redemption. Martyrdom. Blood feud. Hatred. Vengeance. Loyalty. Betrayal
Forgiveness. Rehabilitation. A gripping televisual onslaught that draws you in with it's oil paintings-like cinematography, hypnotically sparse script, gritty, forlorn, hopeless, beautiful settings and locations. Do not only watch series 5. It's not the sort of artistic production that would be made in the U.S.
