I read the first two to mine, by the time the third came out they read them independantly. One of my greatest pleasures was to read Tolkein to my son. Cover to cover it took eight months

The answer to why is simple: Some fundies in the US burnt Harry Potter books, campaigned to remove them from libraries and schools. Would you prefer a wider question: should faith groups poke their nose into what other people's children read?
