People who have a choice tend to run from trouble. Tourists and transient populations generally resist going to areas with political unrest, religious oppression or severe poverty.
There are hundreds and hundreds of thousands of tourists in Indonesia as we speak, and large numbers of foreign workers working here, raising families here.
If you perceive that Indonesia is the kind of country "normal sensible" people should run from, why should we take your perceptions of any other countries seriously?
