Can someone please explain to me why god feels the need to place unbaptized infants in limbo surely god realises it's not the fault of the child? even if it's not god who places them there why can't he bring them to heaven?

That is the position of the RCC, not all Christian necissarily. I personally can't find any biblical backup for being in Limbo.
