If someone gets overly excited about winning the lottery or overly sad about losing material possessions [say losing an expensive car in a crash] then they have a love for money. It is fine and even recommended to work hard, to have material possessions and money and enjoy what one works for.

Christians who belief in the teachings of Christ, would not have a love for money. The teachings of Christ and the love of money are not compatible.

Money is but a tool, but some people live their lives for money.

It would be akin to me living my life for my hammer. It is idolatry.

So it is OK for me to have money, like it is having a hammer, but it is not OK for it to be the reason I take a breath.

Money is great tool, as whodey said, but it is a cruel master.

Jesus said to give away ALL your money to the homeless. If u did that then YOU'D be homeless too. Does that make any sense ??

He also said that we should love our neighbor, even as we love ourselves.

Where would the world be if that were the norm?

That is not scriptural.

Look at this scripture.

Luke 19:1-10 New International Version (NIV)

Zacchaeus the Tax Collector

19 Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. 2 A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. 3 He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. 4 So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way.

5 When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” 6 So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly.

7 All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.”

8 But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”

9 Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. 10 For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

Here we see someone give away only half of what they own and still get their salvation, so the sum of what people give away to the poor is obviously not the issue.
