It could have been the evolution of plants lasting a full billion years or any part of the billion years. In addition, I have provided a possible scenerio that shows how plants may have survived for a time without the sun. Perhaps you were not impressed? Also, we have found plant life recently in the deep ocean that survive independent of the sun. In fact, I remember very vividly in my science class being told that that was in impossibility. This was simply because such life had not been discovered as of yet.
of course the 6 days never meant really 6 days. though there are still YECS who really believe they are literal days. moving on.
the real problem is not with the duration of those 6 days but what happened in each. the order in which creation unfolded is wrong. if your theory holds and the third day lasted 2 billions and the 4th half, doesn't that mean th birds came insects. all animals were vegetarians.
and you still claim to be making science?
What is most interesting for me, however, is that the Cambrian explosion seems to match up with day 5 in the Bible as the creatures in the sea were formed. That is were things really seem to pick up, not only in the Biblical account, but also on the evolutionary account.
What is also curious is how God speaks to the waters to bring forth creatures in the sea and for the earth to bring forth animals on land. In other words, the material building blocks for life are already present on earth as opposed to magically making them appear.
As for the bit about birds, I covered this in my other thread about creation myths. Perhaps we can continue in that thread, so as not to steal Rwingetts thread.
