"In his own image"

This was inevitable. We could not relate to a God who was unlike us.

Even in the minds of atheists, there is a strong perception that we humans are the most advanced species on earth.

Carl Sagan boasted, "we are a way for the Cosmos to know itself".

Is that the one thing all people have in common? A belief in human superiority?

Dissenters aside, another thing all people have in common ~ at least in terms of when they are organized into societies and cultures ~ is a belief in their own immorality in some shape or form. Maybe it's part and parcel of the belief in the human superiority thing.

Well that's an interesting assertion... or did you drop a 't'?

Gosh. Sorry. I am not up to date on the slang for taking drugs. 😆

Is it like taking an 'e', or dropping a tab?

The capacity to have that "strong perception" ~ and act upon it ~ is part of what enables us to dominate and exploit the other species on earth, and then we get to define what "advanced" means too.

Hindu Gods don't always look like us and yet are relatable to their followers.

Well I'd rather be immoral than immortal, anyway.

I suspect immortality would eventually lead to immorality anyway.

Only we can fundamentally change the planet to the point where it will not sustain us.

Does the desire to download your personality to a computer disk and store it on Mars also represent this thirst for immortality?

I believe the only "afterlife" people have is the way they "live" on [after they pass away] in people's memories. That would be finite, so I would not describe it as "immortality".
