You should look in the mirror and see if you look like FMF.

It's what you did in your OP.

You supplanted what the scriptures teach with your own opinions.

Try doing a better job of saying what you mean. 🙂

I would really like it if we actually understood each other.

I did answer "straightforwardly", but you appear not to be able to understand.

When you question the veracity of the scriptures you are undermining their authority.

Remember what Satan said to Eve? "Did God say?" Then you obfuscate what is written by launching into a pile of claptrap about metaphors and symbolism and completely miss the meaning and intent of the narrative.

YOU undermine the scriptures. And then lie about it.

"Undermining their authority" in whose eyes? "Undermining their authority" over whom?

In the eyes of the God you don't know exists.

Their authority over you. There is God's word, and there is your word. If you knew God existed, and was the author of the written word, whose word would have the greater authority? Yours or God's?

But they don't have any "authority over" me. Hi, josephw, I'm FMF. I'm an agnostic atheist. Nothing you or divegeester say can alter the degree of "authority over" me that your religion's writings have.

Wait a minute.

So, you are basically asking me:

If you believed that God was real, why would you still be an atheist?
