Today is the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad and it is observed with a public holiday here in Indonesia. The day is also known as Maulid Nabi and falls on the 12th day of the third Islamic month of Rabi’ al-awwal. According to the Gregorian calendar, he was born on 22 April 571 AD. He died in Medina on 8 June 632. His death is thought to have been caused by fever exacerbated by physical and mental exhaustion.
