I'm a lousy chess player.
1. How much you have played.
2. How you practice / learn.
3. How your brain works (talents).
However, take comfort, however bad your talents are, if you take the time to practice and work on improving your chess, you can get your rating a lot higher - at least 1400 on a good day or even higher if you take it seriously enough.
My rating could be a lot higher if I took time to think about my moves, I currently average 1-2 seconds thought per move - essentially playing on instinct most of the time. But that is because I play to pass the time when waiting for my computer etc, not to improve my rating.

I have a couple of relatives here who are both rather good.
One of them has written down and studied every game he played since junior high.
I think chess is two games. You have to be aware of your best moves and of the best moves that might be coming from your opponent.
That is where I am pretty weak especially in the opening game.
I'll get around to playing you perhaps.

Well if you cant predict your opponents possibilities then you wont get very far.

That will be bad for your rating 🙂
