An unlikely one I would suggest.
A letter from a Witness couple:
As to the attack on the brothers at the memorial in Bulgaria, the video
was sent to friends in England and it reached Trent and Erin Lippold who
are missionaries assigned to Bulgaria ... here is their reply:
Hi Everyone,
Yep that was pretty much it! It is a Nationalist party that organized
the whole thing. They have been causing problems for years. They
generally protest at our DCs, have caused several memorial venues to be
cancelled, protested KH construction and dedications. They have been
very vocal in the media with their hatred for us and spread all kinds of
ridiculous lies. For example in the clip they are chanting "Sects -
before and now are mafia". They have claimed that we are funded by
organized crime. A little ironic actually.
It is funny really but the consequences are generally anything but funny
as the work suffers. However this stunt may have been one too many. It
is indicative of the type of people we're talking about when you
consider it was they who posted that video on the web! It indicates
possibly two things to me: their smarts (which are not generally in
question) and the fact that they may feel they can get away with this
sort of thing. The latter is a distinct possibility and the next few
days and weeks will be telling. This received a small mention on the
news but not too much, that is also telling. I have read some local
comments and people seem to be in agreement that it was an ugly attack
on peaceful people...like them or not.
There were no other incidents like this that we have heard of in the
country. All of the brothers that you may have seen we know very well.
Five were taken to hospital, stitches, broken nose. Those brothers
really took the hits for their brothers and sisters! They kept them
safe by not allowing the hooligans to enter past the front door, there
is another set of double doors that lead to the hall that were kept
closed. But those brothers really suffered, several smoke bombs were
thrown into the hall where they were standing, not to mention rocks, a
planter and anything else they could find. Makes you think "am I ready
to do the same?"
On a happier note we had excellent attendance here - 26 pubs and a total
of 56 came: 21 in Turkish and 35 in Bulgarian. The Roma congregation in
Sofia (30 publishers) had 703 in attendance! Our little congregation
has 100% pioneer participation this month. So although the scenes from
Sunday night in Burgas were very ugly, they are a sign of the times but
the work moves on.
Stay well and stay strong.
