@executioner-brand saidBut frankly this is a piss-poor reason to deny the Bible.
I can't believe the bible is divine because the structure is lacking women involved.. This is NOT the world I am looking for in equality. A women and a man should have an equal chance at life and if so the bible is not the way.
The Bible was written between 2000 and 3500 years ago. Women's rights is a new recent blip on that landscape. The Bible merely records the prevalent societal thought (or the lack thereof) of women of the time. I am glad to be living in this time, instead of that past.
A similar pattern of thought could be made for the representation of people of color in literature.
-Removed-I noticed the generation after me having a poor religious knowledge.
It's great as in New Zealand women PMs have been having an, 'equal' role.
I believe in America it is sexist because of religion and the 46 men presidents thus far when democracy is meant to represent the people of which women make approx. 50 percent.
Yes the 'world I am looking for in the pacific' where they put the missionaries in a pot to eat.
@suzianne saidAlthough this is true, and books should be read in historical context, the Bible is allegedly the word of God and Christians like Paul are apparently transformed by the Holy Spirit. This being the case, why is the Bible, and likewise Paul, undeniably sexist?

@ghost-of-a-duke saidDo you think men and women are the same aside from anatomy?

If not, in what ways are they different?

'But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.'
Is this not sexist? What 'differences' do you think justify these words?
@ghost-of-a-duke said1. It was written by men.

2. A sign of the times. 2000 to 3500 years ago, women were second- or third-class citizens, period. Sexism wasn't "a thing" then.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidWould you agree Paul is referring to the church here?
