"One of the clearest trends I observed is the inverse correlation between religiosity and verbal IQ (the GSS includes a verbal IQ test). In other words, people who are more religious tend to be less intelligent. "

One who was a metals expert went to work for the steal industry in Pittsburgh. He had an A average at Massachusett's Institute of Technology. He also did a lot of research on Bible study of which I still have his quite well documented papers.
Another Christian brother of mine was a astronomy major at MIT. He went on to apply his skills to helping Oil companies locate reserves of oil.
Dr. Raymond Chao worshipped with us on occasion. There was an article about his research on faster than light laser research at Berkley. The article came out in the late 80s in either Newsweek or Time. He also wrote a gospel track called "Beyond Reason?"
Some of the engineers and doctors in my congregation would be amused to learn that their Christian faith is likely to brand them as less intelligent.
Since I have become a Christian I have worshipped with
Statiscians, Astronomers, Dentists, Medical Doctors, Philosophy professors (one is a dean of Philosophy at Stony Brook College - Dr. Donald Welton), concert performing musicians, a symphony conductor, an undercover agent, more than one lawyer, a few accountants, an actor, psychologists, many programmer analysts and information specialists.
I have known Christians who have strong faith in Jesus Christ in many walks of life. I don't know exactly what you define as "religious." But these people's faith has not interfered with their cognitive responsibilites in these professions.
One of the elders in the congregation in New York where I worshipped and was married is an Atomic Physicist at Brookhaven Labs - Dr. James Chu. I can't detect that his faith in God has interfered with his research and administrative responsibilities in Atomic Physics.
Have you read any of the published debates of William Lane Craig against famous Atheists? Go check out the Virtual Office of William Lane Craig and read through some of his many debates.
I would also recommend you check out the web site of Lambert Dolphins a scientist and a Christian. You might also check out the site of Arthur Custance - The Doorway Papers.
I'm glad that God doesn't just love smart people. He loves you!

Originally posted by AThousandYoungI think you offended some people here, ATY. Perhaps you should explain the meaning of "correlation" to them so that these poor believers quit offering up inconsequential anecdotes.
