Week 21 Self-Denial
Christians have two natures. If we are going to grow in Christ, we must
learn to say “No” to the flesh, which is the old nature, and “Yes” to Christ, who lives within us.
1. Circle key words and phrases in the following Scriptures.
I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in
me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
GALATIANS 2:20
Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.
1 PETER 2:11
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; . . . and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.
EPHESIANS 4:22, 24
Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think
about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
ROMANS 13:14
* Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
LUKE 9:23
No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.
1 CORINTHIANS 9:27
2. What do we learn about self-denial in (answer briefly):
Galatians 2:20
