Week 21 Self-Denial

Christians have two natures. If we are going to grow in Christ, we must
learn to say “No” to the flesh, which is the old nature, and “Yes” to Christ, who lives within us.

1. Circle key words and phrases in the following Scriptures.

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in
me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
GALATIANS 2:20

Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.

Can you translate these bible verses for me? Apparently, I cannot interpret them properly without the aid of the Holy Spirit, who isn't returning my phone calls. I can read the words but their meaning completely escapes me. Just as Darfius and Blindfaith101 predicted.

RB, could you offer an interpretation of the verse where Jesus says if your eye offends you pluck it out or if your hand offends you it is better to cut it off. Should we take this literally?

It means to git ride of the things that drag you done.

For example, I am not trying to gossip but I to this one guy I am not hangout with him anymore because all he wants to do is to go to sinful places so I told him I can't do that stuff becasue I need to be a good example to my parents, and that is all that matters to me, is for my parents to accept Christ.
So I got ride of him so I cut that stuff out of my eye.

But there are some unsavory types here on this site, but you continue to associate with them. Don't you feel your presence has some value on the site? I agree with you that if you "sleep with dogs, you'll get fleas" , but it sounds like you are not advocating a Muslim punishment of plucking out eyes or cutting off hands. So Jesus was being figurative here.
