Matthew 7
12“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

What you quoted is not Jesus.

It's really simple.
I'd say your assumption is incorrect due to passages like Colossions 4 where God could have slave masters free their slaves.

Colossians 4 is not Jesus. Are there any more dots that you need connected?

Are you saying that Paul was wrong?

Just as the OT was wrong about a lot of things, Paul was wrong about a lot of things - as were his followers.

Do you actually cut out the books of your Bible that are wrong or do you just ignore them?

Actually I disregard them. Just as you disregard what Jesus had to say here:
Matthew 7
12“In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

So you don't physically cut them out, just ignore.

Funny how you believe your opinion on Jesus' words supercedes apostles appointed by Jesus.

According to the Bible, can slave owners in the modern world be a child of God?
The Bible shows what some people believed a long time ago, not what people should believe today.

Read Leviticus to see what I mean. It's all about how to prepare to butcher a live animal on a stone altar. Civilised people don't do that sort of thing any more.

Actually it's that I don't believe that the opinions of others supersede the words of Jesus.

Evidently you do. Like everyone else, you pick and choose what parts of the bible you believe and which parts you don't. Like many of them, you lack to integrity to acknowledge this fact. Even worse, it seems that you pick and choose in order to further your bigotry.

Sin is sin and is always sin. God does not change, sin does not change.

Where does Jesus say that owning slaves is sinful?

So treat your slaves in a way in which you'd like to be treated.

Seriously?

Jesus seemed to have you in mind when He said this:
Matthew 13
14“In their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says,
‘YOU WILL KEEP ON HEARING, BUT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND;
YOU WILL KEEP ON SEEING, BUT WILL NOT PERCEIVE;
15FOR THE HEART OF THIS PEOPLE HAS BECOME DULL,
WITH THEIR EARS THEY SCARCELY HEAR,
AND THEY HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES,
OTHERWISE THEY WOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES,
HEAR WITH THEIR EARS,
AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART AND RETURN,
AND I WOULD HEAL THEM.’

Says the guy who claims huge chunks of the Bible are not of God.
