if another 2000 years come and pass, will christians still be waiting for jesus to return? will there ever come a time when christians turn round and say, "well, its been 25,000 years, lets be honest about this, he's not coming back is he?"

well the Bible says that lots will leave the faith near the end times. So maybe that could happen and then Christ will come in Glory from the clouds.
It's clear that the earliest christians thought Christ's return was imminent, that he would return within their own lifetimes. When he failed to do so is when christianity began to take its present form.

When he will have returned, everybody on earth will know without any doubt that he is back.
Don't nold your breath however. Suppose it's not 25000 years but 25 MILLION years?
