I think this debate has been beaten into the ground.

However... I am an atheist. But, I do believe that there is something else after this life. I dont believe it is heaven or hell, and I dont know what it is. I just dont believe this is it.

But will you concede that within this forum that I have the right to try to persuade you of what I say I know to be the truth?

Is it that you believe there is somethig else, or that you hope there is?
The two are very different.
Belief would suggest something (however misguided) based on some sort of evidence or proof. Hope is just that.

As an example, I hate the thought of the end of my existence and would indeed hope that there was something else. But I have no belief in such.

Why do you have the desire to try to persuade him? It seems to me with all the opportunities to explore religion and spirituality from a host of sources such as books, TV, churches, etc. that he has had ample opportunity to do that on his own. What makes your persuasion so special and unique?

Well, Jesus said the TRUTH WILL set you free.
So if he has truly been set free then he KNOWS it is the TRUTH.

There is no doubt that Jesus knew the truth. But there are over 35000 sects in Christianity, all of whom think they have the correct version of the TRUTH and the other 34999 sects are wrong.

I know that you know nothing. You have faith. Blind faith. Nothing wrong with that, but faith and knowledge are different.

It may be a little hope, but I really do believe it. However, over time I can see this belief fading.

I have a short story, a personal experience that helps me to believe it. I'll send it in a PM if you want to hear it.

Before any theist says anything... I know this is blind faith.

There are a lot of people from other religions who are equally certain that they know the truth. So how can we determine who (if any) of all those people who allegedly know the truth, does indeed know the truth?
