@divegeester saidSo what's modern about this? Wasn't it always so?
Is when your church leader asks you for money to help solve the church’s problems …
But tells you to pray to solve yours.

@divegeester saidJust look at all the gold in the world's churches and coffers. Do you think priests mined it themselves?
I don’t know, I wasn’t always around to experience it.

@divegeester saidSo, lay up your treasure in heaven, but will your property to the parish.
I think you’re preaching to a convert.
@divegeester saidMy church asks for money so they can pay their bills, and to fund their charity programs.

They DO NOT tell me to pray in order to solve my problems, they ASK me to pray in order for me to communicate with God, to ask forgiveness, and to show my life is not all about me, but also about my fellowship with God.

@divegeester saidPlease go back and read what I just wrote. Employee payroll is just as much a part of a churches bills as heat and lights. 🙄
Your pastor works as your pastor for free then?
@divegeester said2.5 - Our head and assistant pastors and 1 part time secretary. Half through direct donations and half through the national organization. Other jobs such as cleaning, light maintenance, and bible study education are done by our volunteers.
How many paid employees do your church members have to fund as part of the church “bills”?

The last church I attended, which was many years ago, had a paid pastor who also had a provided house and all bills paid. There was also a fundraiser to buy him a new car. Not sure if he got the new car as I left before finding out.
