Well of course. I can define anything. It might be more useful to go to Wikipedia, a dictionary, or a biology textbook for a definition that has more 'authority' that one I make up on the spot.
Regardless, I don't think this thread is about the definition of the word. My point is that the question of the thread while sounding profound and deep is almost meaningless unless clarified.

Okay. Here's one definition:
The property or quality that distinguishes living organisms from dead organisms and inanimate matter, manifested in functions such as metabolism, growth, reproduction, and response to stimuli or adaptation to the environment originating from within the organism.
