@fmf saidHow about Santa Claus? Can I get an amen?
Belief in the "tooth fairy" has never been the foundation of a society's moral values and social order in the same way as belief in deities have been throughout human history. So a claim that "there is no difference" doesn't withstand scrutiny.
Sure, Santa's a little more capitalistic, what with bribing kids with gifts, but has the same effect of manipulating people into more moral behavior.
@bigdogg saidI get your point about manipulation but Santa Claus has never been the foundation of a society's moral values and social order. So Gertrude's claim that "there is no difference" between theism and belief in things like the tooth fairy and Santa Clause is a dud.
How about Santa Claus?
@fmf saidAs a delusional belief, Santa Claus is less successful than the major theistic religions. I'll give them that.

Words like "dud" hide the similarities too much for my liking.
@bigdogg saidI apologize. I'll try again. Discoursewise, Gertrude's claim that "there is no difference" between theism and belief in things like the tooth fairy and Santa Claus is simplistic in a usefulness-annihilating way . The word "dud" is purged. 🙂
