The former is (one) explanation of the latter which is mearly a noun for the collective essence of God.
Do you think your phrase "the collective essence of God" is completely free from misunderstanding by some?

You had one "essence" as the sender and the other "essence" as the one sent.
We have one "essence" PRAYING TO the other "essence".
We have one "essence" LOVING the other "essence".
Is your " the collective essence of God" that much better then "three distinct but not separate Persons" ?
