You don't know. But one thing you seem to know for sure: God never put it there!
How do we see god? as some all powerful father figure, just like we viewed our biological father when we were very young, so the god figure head is just an extension of the ideal we had of our biological father to help us out in this big bad world. This archaicness served a purpose once, but surely now we're more sophisticated than that. Yes we need a certain form of spirituality to fufil certain intrinsic needs, but can't we make it a secular one...........
