@kevin-eleven saidSalvation.
What difference does it make?
Some say: "A difference that makes no difference is no difference."
Although I suppose keeping some of the wilderpeeps tangled up in mental brambles about spirituality might provide a net benefit to society.
Help in the here and now.
Peace that passes all understanding.
Those are probably the three biggies if you’re a Christian.
@kevin-eleven saidJust avoid any place that only offers barbecue
These days I'm tending more toward Pure Land Buddhism just in case they have better street food in the afterlife. π
@kevin-eleven saidThe spiritual quest points people towards engagement beyond sheer egotism. If people don’t engage in something larger than sheer egotism, they end up mean and petty and blaming everyone but themselves for their failures, like Donald Trump.

@moonbus saidSeems pointless to go on a spiritual quest to engage beyond egotism if it leads to belittling someone else even if they are a full blown egoistic billionaire.

A successful spiritual quest relieves one of egocentrism and levels the playing field.

That's right.
Peace.
When in colleage some Christian told me that I would never have peace I received Jesus into my heart, I was bothered. This irritated me to hear this.
I found out latter that he was correct.
So I concur with your mentioning of the peace the passes every man's
understanding.
Now Jesus said that the kingdom people were the salt of the earth.
Salt is something to preserve the food in those days.
It prevented the meat from becomming completely rotten.
The presence of Christians on the earth until the Lord returns is as the salt of the earth - a preservative. Their presence is to prevent complete rotteness of society yet not to heal all society's ills.
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet." (Matt. 5:13)
But if a Christians losses his saltiness he becomes one only to be trampled underfoot. He must maintain connection with the Salty One, Jesus within, who has overcome the world.
NASB 1995
“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men."
That is sad for a Christian to lose the salting function. That is one reason why we are in the world. And Jesus who said He was the light of the world also said His kingdom people were to be the light of the world. We like Him.
HE - "Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” (John 8:12)
WE kingdom people - “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden." (Matt. 5:14)
