Certain times require certain measures...
When are you okay with Christians resorting to violence and conquering to save anything that is good?
If you think Christians should turn the other cheek and be passive, you will be eliminated.
What scenario would cause Christians to arm up? In your opinion obviously....
The early Christians had different ideas coming into the newfound religion. For one, by Jesus' birth it signaled the end of Herod the Great's rule. Though there came Antipas and Agrippa sons, Jewish and Roman relations started to settle. Tensions came by way in Zealots, a fourth party among Sadducees, Pharisees, and others active on the sociopolitical scene. According to the Bible as Literature series, third in group is the Herodians on the heels of those in power. Then curiosly, the Essenes are understood as outsiders looking in. That appears to extend scripturally to influence or tacit attributions. Followers of the Messiah didn't intend on dying a martyr unless they had no option, yet were given preparedness for dry martyrdom. So to answer direct here, not all were aspiring to a public revolt but then not all felt called toward passivity. Notably, one of the disciples chosen is Simon the Zealot.
@Of-Ants-and-Imps saidThanks. But we need at acknowledge that when Jesus was being approached by the Roman soldiers he told Peter to put up his sword. One would think that if anyone on earth should have been fought for, it was Jesus.

A Christian which means to "be Christ like" should always follow that mentality in almost any situation. But one must understand that if lets say a human parent were to kill someone in self defense of their child being attacked by a crazy person with the intent of harming are killing that child, of course that is an immediate decision. What parent would not react that way?
But later after the fact one has to remember that all life belongs to Jehovah. If we do take a life we do have to answer to Jehovah. Every circumstance is different of course and not only do we have to live with that action of taking another life but one does need to pray to Jehovah until one feels it is settled with him.

Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end. And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough. (Luk 22:36-38 KJV)
I doubt the reason was to peel oranges.
@My-King-And-I saidFor a society: Just War Theory goes back a long ways, at least as far as Th. Aquinas, and encompasses several factors: just cause, proportionate means, permissible targets, and just conduct. See for example:

For an individual: 'turning the other cheek' cannot be applied as a blanket imperative to all people in all cases. If someone slaps your cheek, it is up to you whether you offer the other cheek to be slapped, too, but if someone slaps a child's cheek, no one, including Jesus, would counsel offering the assailant the opportunity to slap the child's other cheek, too.

As usual I'll be wasting my time here but but look deeper into what Jesus is saying:
"Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scripture and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, (A prophecy) And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end. And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough. (Luk 22:36-38 KJV)
This is a prophecy about Jesus death. The two swords represent the two that were killed along side Jesus.
And only 2 swords were being carried by those with Jesus. In reality if they were to fight for Jesus they would "all" have needed swords. They didn't so the two swords had to be there for another purpose.
Think about it......
@galveston75 saidYou are wasting your time because you are not making any sense. These disciples were going out in pairs to preach, and each pair was to carry two swords, to protect themselves. It had nothing to do with protecting Jesus or fighting for Jesus, neither is there any need for a deep interpretation. Just take it for what it says... the disciples were to carry swords for their own protection. End of story. Stop with the ridiculous analysis and nonsensical interpretation.

@Rajk999 saidLol. You really are lost aren't you????? So since you tell everyone that they are wrong and you are right....does that mean that no one but you are in God's good graces?

@Arkturos saidHi. Who are you asking?
Sorry to backtrack, but are we just talking about the Christians of planet Earth?
@galveston75 saidIs that your default response when you are cornered? Also the bible says you are wrong, not me. The bible says one thing which is all I have stated. You say another and what you say is not in the bible.

In the recent discussion in the other thread we noticed the following
- The bible says the 144,000 are Jews who are 12,000 from each tribe, but you say that is not so.
- The bible says Jesus will return, and you say Jesus will not actually return.
You are constantly at odds with the bible.
