Add to that ,, El is the chief (the father) bull god in the pagan Canaanite pantheon and it must be a bit unsettling to people that want to deny the polythiestic origin of the God of the bible.

I believe Jesus also answered very similiar when asked. " Before moses, I am". So there's some consistency with this answer.
